So Captain Picard, what do you think of this?

Well said captain. Well. Said.
I didn't race last week because I wasn't paying enough attention to the dates, and didn't know there was a race last week until I got an email the day after saying the results had been posted. The races are usually two weeks apart, so I didn't expect it.
I finished Inside of a Dog last weekend. I really liked it. Next up: New York Burning. About the Conspiracy of 1741.

After finishing the disappointing Woken Furies, I've picked up Inside of a Dog by Alexandra Horowitz. Amazon Caesar Milan fan's reviews not withstanding, I'm finding it a very interesting, edifying, and quick read. To the point that I've gotten more than halfway through it after just picking it up last friday. Having nothing to do Saturday but sit on my porch and read probably helped.
If you have netflix, and a streaming device of some sort hooked up to your TV, you should really be watching the Beeb's modern take on Sherlock Holms: Masterpiece Mystery!: Sherlock. Of course, I'm the guy who keeps wanting to call the guy who plays Watson, Tim, instead of his real name. So I may not be the brightest bulb in the six-pack.
Also watched Doomsday saturday night. Not really a good movie. It starts out as a kind of Mad Max post apocalypse-y/zombie smash up kind of thing, and then rapidly devolves into a muddle of a king arthur/Bentley commercial mishmash. With a generous helping of WTF moments and ridiculous plot holes and unexplained motivations. Not worth sitting through I'm afraid. Not good, and not quite so terrible you can laugh at it.

mom I am reading a book by Sara Andrews - and her main character is a geologist. She manages to weave a murder mystery around much Colordo geology. Not sure what I am doing wrong that I can't get a link in here.

Hope your knee and heels are doing better. Don't forget that you do have health insurance. :p

Ain't nobody here but us chickens
But to catch up: Tuesday was the first LMBS race. I skipped it. I've got a ton of excuses, but here's the one I'm going with. The weekend before I tripped while out running and ripped the hell out of my knee. It was still a little sore from the impact itself, but more distressing was the feeling that the scabs were about to rip open every time I bent my knee past a certain angle. I happened to ride my bike to work that day, and it was torture.
When I got home for lunch yesterday, I found some new running shoes waiting for me on the porch. I took them out for a trail run yesterday after work. (The scabs were feeling more "solid" although my knee did complain a bit on the harsher impacts). I like the shoes quite a bit. I got them in a EE, and I would almost like a little more width, but they're comfortable enough. I already like them more than the Bikilas, but that opinion could change if they ever came out with a really wide Bikila. My feet weren't knocking around inside the shoe as much as they do in my regular trail shoes, which lead to a much more solid feeling while bouncing off the babyhead rocks and roots that litter the trail. The worst part was that I did tear the heck out of my heels thanks to being new shoes compounded by trail grit getting inside them.
Last night I finished reading Woken Furies, the last of the three Takeshi Kovacs novels. And by far my least favorite. But I had to get it finished because it was due back to the library today. It just seemed to drag on and on. It wasn't as good of a Sci-Fi/Noir/Thriller as the first of the trilogy, and the story wasn't as interesting as the second book. It just went on and on and became a vehicle for the author's political pontificating. Which is just not that fun to read. Meh.
I also picked up some good travel reading: Roadside Geology of Wyoming. Really interesting stuff. There's even an entry in the Roadside Geology series for Wisconsin, if you're wondering.
